Rubber Suction Cups

01

Rubber Suction Cup Manufacturing

At Vipad®, we manufacture rubber vacuum suction cups used in industrial automation, robotic arms, packaging and material handling systems. As shown in the images, suction cups can be manufactured in many different designs, including flat, grooved, bellows-type and metal-body-integrated models. Selecting the correct suction cup type depends on the shape of the surface to be handled (flat, curved or perforated), its material and its weight. Vipad® combines the appropriate suction cup geometry with the correct elastomer material for every application scenario.

02

How Does a Suction Cup Work?

The holding force of a suction cup is based on the vacuum cavity created between the elastomer component and the surface. When the air inside the suction cup is removed by a vacuum source such as a pump or ejector, atmospheric pressure presses the suction cup against the surface, providing a secure grip. The number of folds in the suction cup directly determines its flexibility and ability to adapt to inclined surfaces — as the number of folds increases, the suction cup can tolerate greater surface irregularities.

🔴 Flat Suction Cups The most commonly used suction cup type, providing maximum contact area on flat and smooth surfaces. The grooved inner surface design shown in the images distributes the vacuum evenly and provides a more secure grip. These suction cups are generally preferred for handling glass, metal sheets and wooden panels.

  • Single-fold and multi-port versions
  • Metal-reinforced body options, such as models with integrated stainless-steel or brass components
  • Types with fixed mounting plates and swivel connections

⚙️ Special-Body / Metal-Integrated Suction Cups The suction cup examples shown with integrated metal bodies and brass nipples are special designs intended for heavy-duty industrial handling applications and can be connected directly to high-pressure vacuum lines. These suction cups are generally manufactured by bonding the elastomer component to a CNC-machined metal base.

Material Options

The most critical factor determining suction cup performance is the selection of the elastomer material:

Material Key Feature Typical Application
NBR (Nitrile) Oil-resistant and cost-effective Metal sheets and general industrial handling
Silicone Food-compatible and suitable for a wide temperature range Food packaging and cleanroom applications
Polyurethane (PU) High abrasion resistance Rough or dusty surfaces and wooden panels
Vinyl/PVC Cost-effective and suitable for light-duty applications Paper and cardboard handling
